Gritty Girls Podcast Case Study

Project Goals

The Gritty Girls Podcast is a show where two women come together to explore hot-button topics that people want to discuss but often feel insecure about sharing with friends and family. The Gritty Girls needed a comprehensive design and branding that reflected the show’s title: Grit and Femininity. My job was to create a logo along with a consistent look that would encompass the website, merch, each show topic, and photo shoots.

Personality

Gritty Girls Statement

“The Gritty Girls podcast is a place where you can come to process the issues and topics your friends, family or co-workers may or may not be discussing. We discuss topics that sometimes are too personal, or too taboo to bring up at the office or at your child’s playdate. So if you’re bored with small talk and are ready to dive deeper, then this is the place for you!”

Process

I began sketching logo ideas on paper before working in my Adobe software. I wanted to use some texture in the logo and in the supporting graphics, so I spent some time looking at photography that was very tactile in nature. I also played around with font combinations, looking for a nice contrast between feminine and masculine that would work well with the brand’s personality.

Solution

The solution ended up being a perfect contrast of masculine and feminine energy, showcased by the hard lines of the sans-serif font, the rough texture of the word ‘Gritty’, and the organic flow of the word ‘Girls’. I liked the juxtaposition of the feminine pink color with the boldness of black and white and I think the end result represents the show well.
